The only tool needed to change the battery is a little flathead screwdriver. A little coin or butter knife might also work if you do not have a screwdriver accessible.
A replacement CR2032 3V battery can be acquired on Amazon for just a few dollars, but if you need it as swiftly as possible, you can find it at a mixture of stores such as Wal-Mart, Radio Shack and CVS.
To pop open a Toyota remote control, locate the small recessed slot at the top edge above the "Lock" toggle, insert the little screwdriver into the recessed slot and turn it to separate the two halves.

Insert a new CR2032 battery with the plus side pointing up.

Then connect the two halves and re-couple the key ring.
