  2. Make and disseminate flyers and put up signs in high traffic areas. Kindly make certain that your signs and flyers do not violate City of Austin sign regulations. For design and display tips, click here.
  3. Pass out flyers in vet clinics, pet stores, pet boarding facilities, groomers and other local businesses.
  4. Don’t lose hope too soon. Some missing pets are discovered within hours or days and yet others are found months or even years after going missing. Don’t give up!

If You Find a Pet

  1. Turn in a Found Animal Report by calling 311 or use the Austin 311 app.
  2. Utilising this report, the pet will be recorded in our online database for the next two weeks. If the pet’s owner is discovered in two weeks, kindly submit a fresh report.
  3. Take the pet you found to a vet, emergency animal hospital or an animal shelter in your area to have the pet’s body scanned for a microchip. Microchips can migrate in the pet’s body.
  4. There is an Austin Lost and Found Pets Facebook page which you can and join to post photos and information about the pet.

If you are able to, kindly accommodate the animal safe and secure in your home while you continue to look for the owner. Our shelter operates at capacity and has almost no room for new animals coming in.

If it is not possible for you to keep the animal or if it is injured, you can bring it to the Austin Animal Center from Monday to Friday, 11am to 7pm or Saturday and Sunday, 11am to 5pm.
